As the term “OpenAI’s GPT-3” began appearing more frequently in my reading materials, I decided to find out what this GPT was all about. (General Pre-Trained for those still not in the know). Then my two grandsons (aged 12 and 10) had occasional mentions of the term over dinner. To stay connected, I decided to dive in. That was four months ago.

I dipped my toes (or rather fingers, in this case) into the brave new world by installing AI Chat, Genie, Nova and Chatbot AI. After amusing myself for a few days with funny questions and getting reasonable answers, I moved on to asking AI to write letters. The emails to the relevant authorities complaining about unlit streets were quite well written actually. Some included features offering tonality range – angry, friendly or just plain official sounding.

Soon, my FaceBook page was flooded with various AI apps on a higher plane: apps to write blogs, FB postings, research papers ad infinitum. To cut a long story short I ended up subscribing to three apps which have been liberating, to put it mildly. The three apps are sometimes used concurrently, depending on the assignment. But each has their distinctive advantages. Here goes:

Quillbot is an AI-based writing tool that utilizes advanced algorithms to paraphrase and rephrase text while maintaining coherence and overall meaning. Its main advantages include the ability to generate high-quality writing suggestions, enhance writing productivity by saving time and effort, and assist in creating unique content for various purposes such as essays, articles, and presentations.

My favourite feature: when out of ideas, the app offers you three routes on which direction to take your story.

Writecream is a powerful writing tool.  Firstly, it provides a clean and distraction-free writing environment, allowing users to focus solely on their writing without any unnecessary distractions. Secondly, it has a user-friendly interface and intuitive design, which makes it easy to navigate and use. Writecream also offers a variety of formatting options, such as font styles, sizes, and colors, enabling users to personalize their writing. It also has a handy word count feature. Lastly, Writecream automatically saves the work and is accessible from any device with an internet connection, ensuring no progress is lost and enabling seamless collaboration with others.

My favourite feature: it is virtually a really useful personal assistant. It helps you with research, just writing headlines for your product to create images.

ProWritingAid is an all-in-one writing tool that offers a range of features to improve writing quality. Its main features include grammar and spelling checking, style and readability enhancements, plagiarism detection, and vocabulary enhancements. These features help writers to identify and correct errors, improve sentence structure, eliminate repetition, and choose precise words. ProWritingAid’s advantage lies in its comprehensive reports that provide detailed analysis of the text, highlighting areas for improvement and offering suggestions for better writing. It also integrates with popular writing platforms and caters to various writing styles, making it a versatile tool for writers of different genres.

My favourite feature: it resembles the perfect tutor for anything I do on the laptop.

The above choices were made after reasonably extensive searches on the internet. There may be better, newer ones on the market since four months ago (February 2023). If you are really keen on improving the quality of your life, check out on the internet. A whole new world awaits you.
